Get Out (And Do Something).

Mal, Chellarie, and Me.

It’s so easy to come up with grand ideas. One summer, ten years ago or so, my cousins and I came up with a wonderful roadtrip idea. We wanted to circle around the States and touch on some of the Canadian provinces. Hours were spent carefully marking out the route on the map. The only problem was…we were minors and our parents didn’t share the vision. We were seeing glory and they were seeing warning signs. Figures.

All that to say, I’m a big fan of coming up with grand ideas and executing them (when possible). During last week’s edition of Movies by Moonlight, three of us came up with an idea. It was simple enough: go to Austin and try stand up paddle-boarding.

And that’s exactly what we did.

For me, it was a chance to get on the water and cross off something that had recently made “The List” . For Chellarie, it was a challenge to see if her injured knee would hold up. And for dear Mal, it was something completely new and random.

The fabulous thing was that really, it didn’t take much planning. One of the major perks of being single is that you can do what what you want, when you want to. Once you are committed to someone else, that freedom goes away. Enjoy it now. You’ll trade it in for something beautiful later.

For the record, SUP is relaxing, challenging, and worth spending an afternoon on. If you find yourself in Austin, check out the Rowing Dock.

I’m always curious though. What are some of the random things you have on your list? What fun things could you being doing now at your specific time of life that you couldn’t do before and can’t do later?

I can’t wait till I can do that sort of thing spur of the moment. As it is, I don’t have my own vehicle (saving up though!) so I’m dependent on others for that….but still, I’m trying to get a few things knocked off my list.

I’ve been thinking that taking a hike up Mt. Rainier and having a snowball fight sounds pretty fun right about now! Sounds like a great way to spend a Saturday…
