Purple Day + The Beach

Purple Day What are the odds that five women would all show up to the same office wearing purple? I’d say that the chances were slim to none and Slim just walked out the door. It happened last week at the office.

But there we all are. Me, BC, BB, Brooke, and Bailey in our purple glory. So we had a purple picnic (or pow-wow) and planned our weekend vacation to Mustang Island.

The weekend itself was full of adventure, just how I like vacations to be. Somehow, we made it through the weekend without seeing a Whooping Crane. People had come from all over the nation to see the birds and we were delightfully out of the aviary loop. But we did have a fun time imitating the birds. It’s probably a good thing we didn’t run into too many hard-core bird watchers. They would have rolled their eyes and chased us off the island.

One thing I love about vacations with girlfriends is that you don’t have to go far to have a good time. I snuck a few glances at email over the weekend but it wasn’t that hard to focus on the here and now. For the most part, all my cares were left in San Antonio. My biggest worry was if I was going to burn while I was on the beach or not (I didn’t). It was bliss.

Getting to know the other women outside of the office was rad, too. There’s so much more to a person than what they do or how they earn their paycheck. Everyone is a trembling mass of energy, hopes, dreams, and fears. Get them outside the labyrinth of cubicles and you have a completely different creature. Someone you think you know but you really don’t have the foggiest notion about. It’s a great experience.
