Welcome December

I don’t know about you, but December is my favorite month in the year. In my book, there’s nothing better than cozy houses nestled in a sea of snow, steaming mugs of coffee/tea/hot cocoa, and watching holiday movies with family and friends. I love the scent of a real Christmas tree filling up there house, the act of hanging up ornaments, and wrapping presents for special people. There’s something magical about December that goes beyond the return of the red cups and peppermint mochas at Starbucks. Community starts to get reassembled. All of  a sudden, people cast off their cloaks of independence and meet up to make memories. Parties are thrown almost every night and everyone is jolly.

There’s a dark side to Christmas; the stress of trying to meet unrealistic expectations, trying to find a parking spot within a mile of the mall, or making sure you have the time with the people you love instead of the people you think you should be seen with. People go to rediculous lengths to provide Christmas presents. Sometimes, the best present is being present.

That’s really what December represents to me. Getting caught up in the moment. Instead of always looking forward to the next thing, savoring where you are. I wish that I could do that during the entire year, not just 1/12 of it.

So to all of you – Happy December. Enjoy every second of it.
